Hearing and speech impaired persons in the Keystone Country region are able to make emergency and other medically related calls to Altoona Regional with the use of the TTY system installed in the Emergency Center. Communication is accomplished by means of a telephone typewriter, which allows the caller to "speak" through a series of typed letters and numbers.

HOURS: 1:30 p.m., Tuesdays, March 25, April 22, September 23, and October 28. Bedford Room, Altoona Hospital Campus. PURPOSE: Provide support and education to individuals and family members affected by heart disease. Members are encouraged to ventilate feelings and share mutual concerns in order to attain a better understanding of their family members' heart diseases. Regularly scheduled programs are provided. Eligibility: Any individual and family members who have been affected by heart disease.
HOURS: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Altoona Hospital Campus Outpatient Center.
PURPOSE: Provides educational and exercise sessions for bypass patients, heart attack patients, post valve repair, stable angina and post angioplasty and stent patients. Exercise is medically prescribed and observed by specially trained healthcare professionals.
PURPOSE: A support group for people who care for loved ones with any chronic illness. Support and encouragement are provided to help everyone in the group effectively continue their care giving role.
The Center for Rehabilitation at Bon Secours Hospital Campus is comprised of an inpatient rehabilitation unit and a physical medicine and rehabilitation department. The inpatient rehabilitation unit is located on the 5th Floor of the hospital. Referrals are accepted from within Altoona Regional Health System as well as from other hospitals. The physical medicine and rehabilitation department offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech pathology services for both inpatients and outpatients. A variety of specialized programs are available including video fluoroscopy testing for swallowing difficulties, lymphedema management, a total joint program (for knee and hip replacements), and an aggressive comprehensive rehab therapy program. Outpatient diagnoses treated include multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Cerebral Vascular Accident, amputees, lymphedema, and pediatric patients. Lymphedema management provides and extensive program of massage, exercise, and use of special compression wrapping and patient education. Wheelchair and amputee clinics are also held at the hospital once a month.

PURPOSE: Provides emotional support and education for patients dealing with kidney disease. Eligibility: People with kidney disease and their families.
HOURS: 2 p.m. Sundays, March 16, April 20, May 18, September 21, October 19, and November 16, in School of Nursing Auditorium at Altoona Hospital Campus. Call in advance to confirm meeting date and location. PURPOSE: Provide emotional support and education for patients and families dealing with ostomy-related issues.
Car Seat Loaner Program 1. All children from birth to age 4 must be secured in an approved car seat anywhere in the vehicle, effective August 21, 1993. Violators of this primary law are subjected to a maximum fine of $100 plus Court Costs, EMS, Cat Fund and Administrative Fees. 2. All children from 4 to age 8 must be secured in a seat belt system and an appropriate child booster seat anywhere in the vehicle, effective February 21, 2003. Violators of this secondary law are subjected to a maximum fine of $100 plus EMS, Cat Fund and Administrative Fees. 3. All children from age 8 to 18 must be secured in a seat belt system anywhere in the vehicle, effective February 21, 2003. Violators of this secondary law are subjected to a $10 fine plus EMS, Cat Fund and Administrative Fees. 4. All drivers are responsible for securing children in the appropriate restraint system. Prepared Childbirth Series Children learn about the abilities of newborn baby, discuss mother's stay in the hospital and tour the maternity department. No fees, donations accepted. Cesarean Class Breastfeeding Class & Support Group Grandparents’ Night Car seats work best when they are installed correctly. However, this isn't as easy as it appears and a baby's life may depend upon the car seat working properly. We encourage parents to stop at our permanent car seat inspection station to learn how to safely secure a child's car seat in a vehicle. Located on the Blue Level of the Altoona Hospital parking garage, the inspection station will promote car seat safety year-round. Inspections are scheduled for the second Friday of each month. Appointments must be made in advance by calling (814) 889-7802.
PURPOSE: Members meet for mutual assistance in helping to deal with depression. Intended to complement formal care of depression and bipolar disorder. Eligibility: Open to anyone with depression or bipolar illness, or their families.

Path Ways: Mental Health Programs for Older Adults is a short-term inpatient psychiatric unit and program specially designed to evaluate and treat older adults with psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral problems. The experienced interdisciplinary team develops an individualized treatment plan for each patient, which may include: individual, group, and family psychotherapies, activity therapies, medications, and other therapeutic modalities. The home-like facilities, clinical programs and compassionate staff promote a friendly, supportive sense of community. The treatment team's goal is to assist each patient to help him or herself achieve an optimum level of emotional, physical, and cognitive functioning. SUMMARY OF SERVICE Outpatient Treatment Services - Evaluation, individual, marital, family, group and medical treatment provided by a team of professional staff for individuals (children and adults), couples and families who have drug, alcohol or related problems. Fee based on a sliding scale, MA, and many insurances accepted. Inpatient Treatment Referral - Evaluation and referral to appropriate inpatient treatment is provided by a professional team. Prevention Services - Prevention Services provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug, education, information, dissemination, training and technical assistance to systems that make up the communities in Blair County. These systems include but are not limited to school districts, businesses, agencies, government, faith communities and media. Other Services - Information and referral services provided 24 hours per day through the Drug and Alcohol Hotline at 889-2141. Community Education Programs concerning drug and alcohol issues are available for community groups. The Altoona Regional Pregnancy Care Center offers comprehensive prenatal health care through the Healthy Beginnings Plus Program. The office is staffed by nurses trained in obstetrics, Altoona Family Physician residents and obstetrician Dr. Marie A. Wetzel and Altoona OB/GYN Associates. PROGRAMS:
Comprehensive health care to women during pregnancy. The Healthy Beginnings program offers care coordination, medical/obstetric care, and childbirth and parenting education classes. Referrals offered for substance abuse, smoking cessation, and psychological problems. Will assist with transportation and childcare for appointments.

Eligibility: Women 40 and over with no insurance who meet income guidelines.
Colposcopy and cryosurgery services are provided to women who have certain cervical disorders. Colposcopy is a diagnostic measure. Cryosurgery is a treatment. Eligibility: No restrictions.
Testing and treatments for most sexually transmitted diseases including testing for HIV (AIDS virus). HIV testing includes a pre-and post-test counseling session.
